Dear Friends,

I can hardly believe how fast this space I share with you has grown in just a little over a year. Initially, Forever Fred Astaire was meant to be a place that I could celebrate the legacy of the man himself, Fred Astaire, as well as contribute my opinion on international and local men's fashion trends. However, with all of your support, this small time hobby has opened a couple doors for me and I can only imagine what else is in store in the near future.

The main reason for this note is to let you know that very soon, this space will be under renovation. A very good friend of mine and I have been talking extensively about broadening the Forever Fred Astaire experience in such a way that will truly serve as a beacon to Fred Astaire’s memory and ultimately be a compelling force in the men’s fashion and style industry. With my friends generous and selfless help, we will make Forever Fred Astaire cutting edge in look, feel as well as the posts that I am humbled to say that you all have come to love.

Lastly, I would like to let you know how much I am touched by each and every one of you that has taken time to become a loyal ‘friend’ of Forever Fred Astaire, I extent my most heartfelt appreciation to you all.

Ombré & Dip-Dye

This just in from the trend-setter gods: the ombré and dip-dye look is all the way in again for Fall 2012! Orignially, this trend came down from the French traslation for shadow. The fade effect creates for a more classic touch to every piece of item and also a greater intrigue, almost as though one is not just wearing any old -- for example -- cardigan. Add a little more character to your wardrobe! Dsquared2 and Marc by Marc Jacobs are some of the fashion houses featuring this trend for the latest season.

With this new style, there has been a lot of talk that this trend has in fact been exercised in the more recent past. As muich as this fact is true, it is important to remember that menswear fashion is not quite like womenswear in that more times than not, mens trends are recycled time and again. It is therefore up to the gentlemen to find different ways to translate what may have already been done in the past. Food for thoiught perhaps, gentlemen?

Good tidings brought by the wonderful AllSaints in authentic denim and cool coloured tones for Autumn 2012. The urban gent will enjoy the street inspired aesthetic of this lookbook featuring drop-crotch trousers, denim-on-denim and of course, polka dot. Most intriguing in recent men's collections is the feature of polka dot pieces which not only provide a versatility but also define the most simplest of looks. The movement of street style has taken the world over by storm, now more than ever it is fascinating to see how the locals take pieces from the runway and interpret the outfit to speak true to each individuals identity as well as compliment a favoured style. Courtesy of 'THE STREET' store in Johannesburg, South Africa, these photos are of some of the stylish gentlemen we have in the country. With the varying use of outerwear in denim jackets, blazers and leather jackets, each look is in line with the chilly weather currently over the country. Such variation in looks and what character in each of the worn-in shoes. Menswear is rapidly becoming as compelling a force as women's wear, how refreshing it is to see our very own gentlemen allowing their style to fly free!
